2010 summer ZooCamp

Camps for preschool kids (ages 3 & 4)

  • June 14 to 18: Animals 1,2,3! Learning to count is so much more fun to do when animals are helping! At this camp you can count on some of your favorite critters being there.
  • June 21 to 25: Animals ABC! Meet some critters who can help you learn your ABCs. Meet animals in the classroom, tour the Zoo and see if you can find an animal for every letter of the alphabet.

Camps for kids ages 5 & 6

  • SOLD OUT!! July 5 to 9: Tons of Tails! You might not have a tail but lots of your favorite animals do! Come meet some cool critters that have tales to tell about their tails.
  • SOLD OUT!! July 19 to 23: Crazy Camouflage. Spots or stripes. Red or brown. Animals can look very different but it's these different patterns and colors that help them to survive. Meet some awesome critters with crazy ways to hide right under your nose.
  • August 2 to 6: Funky Feet! How many feet do you have? Do you have skin between your toes? How about claws? Animals can have very interesting feet and you will learn why they look the way they do and how these funky feet help animals survive.
  • SOLD OUT!! August 16 to 20: We Are Families! Flocks, herds and pods, Oh My! Some animals like to live in groups with their families and friends and some don't. Meet some social critters to learn if there really is safety in numbers.
  • SOLD OUT!! August 23 to 27: Everyone Grows! Joeys, chicks and tadpoles! Some baby animals go through some pretty cool changes to grow up. Learn about the life cycles of some of your favorite animals.

Camps for kids ages 7 & 8

  • SOLD OUT!! July 12 to 16: Creatures of the Night. 'Whooo' comes out at night? Learn what animals come out at night and how they survive after the sun goes down.
  • SOLD OUT!! July 26 to 30: Animal Olympics. You might have watched the Winter Olympics on TV, now it is your turn! Meet some animal athletes and learn about the incredible ways they move. You even get a chance to challenge the animals in our own Olympic games.
  • SOLD OUT!! August 9 to 13: Radical Reptiles and Awesome Amphibians! Reptiles rock and frogs have a hopping good time! Learn what makes reptiles and amphibians so special and meet ambassadors from these two awesome groups of animals.
  • SOLD OUT!! August 16 to 20: Marvelous Mammals and Beautiful Birds! Everyone loves our furry friends the mammals and our feathered friends the birds. Meet some awesome animal ambassadors from all around the world with feathers or fur.

Camps for kids ages 9 & 10

  • July 5 to 9: Go Green! Is it easy being green? You bet it is! Learn about how going green can help animals all around the world and the simple things we can do to help. Meet some animals facing extinction, create crafts from recycled materials and tour the Zoo to see animals whose wild relatives need your help.
  • SOLD OUT!! July 26 to 30: Rainforest Realms. The rainforest is a pretty amazing place. Learn what makes this habitat so incredible, meet animals that call this wonderful place home and find out all the important products that come from the rainforest that you use in your everyday life.
  • August 2 to 6: Nature Explorers. Could you survive a trek through the jungle, an exploration to Antarctica or even a walk through your own back yard? Learn about survival skills and tracking techniques used by wildlife researchers in the field and meet some animals they might meet along the way.

Camp for kids ages 11 & 12

  • BOTH SESSIONS ARE SOLD OUT!! July 12 to 16 OR August 23 to 27: Junior Zoologist. Our most popular camp is back! Learn about all the different jobs you can have working with animals. Spend some time being a Zoo Keeper, an Animal Trainer or a Wildlife Researcher and learn what it takes to have a wild job at the Zoo.
  • SOLD OUT!! July 19 to 23: Junior Zoologist. This camp has been changed from the "Picture This" camp. See above for camp details.
  • August 9 to 13: Critters in Crisis. Critters around the world are in crisis and they need your help. Come learn about endangered species and what you can do to help.

Prices per week

Half Day: 9 a.m. to Noon OR 1 to 4 p.m. (Please note: The 1 to 4 p.m. half-day session is only available for preschool children.)

  • $100 for members
  • $115 for non-members

Full Day: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

  • $175 for members
  • $190 for non-members

Before Care: 8 to 9 a.m.

  • $25 per week

After Care: 4 to 5 p.m.

  • $25 per week

Please note: Lunch is not included. Children can bring lunch money if they wish to purchase lunch from the Zoo's Eagle's Landing Cafe or bring a peanut-free lunch with them.

Important information

  • There is a maximum of 12 children in each preschool camp and a maximum of 18 children in all other camps.
  • Because camp size is limited, payment is due when reservation is made. Spots will not be held.
  • Camp is managed by two counselors and ZooTeen volunteers.
  • Camp is held rain or shine. Activities are held in comfortable classrooms and outside.
  • No refunds are given for cancellations. Credit toward another ZooCamp will be given.
  • We do not provide lunch. We do provide snacks each day.
  • Each child receives one ZooCamp T-shirt per week.
  • Adults picking up a child must be pre-approved. IDs will be checked.
  • Drop off and pick up for all children is at the Front Gate.
  • Please be on time picking up your child. A late fee must be charged for excessive late pick-ups.
