Education, Conservation and Community Opportunities

The Education Department at the Seneca Park Zoo is committed to the positive personal and professional development of youth between the ages of 13 and 18. We carry out this commitment by providing programs that emphasize the Zoo's mission.

The E.C.C.O. (Education, Conservation and Community Opportunity) Leadership Program encourages teens to become a positive force for conservation, education and responsible stewards of the Earth's natural resources. The program empowers teens by equipping them with the resources and skills necessary to make change in their own lives through self discovery and throughout their community by becoming ambassadors for the Earth's environment.

The E.C.C.O. program is a semester-long opportunity to learn at the Zoo through activities designed by and for youth, focusing on leadership, animal husbandry and conservation, and local and global environmental issues. Participants will attend two weekly interactive workshops from 4 to 6 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays and work on projects that develop team-building, communication skills and conservation knowledge. Upon completion, E.C.C.O. graduates have the opportunity to volunteer with the Zoo in a variety of ways.

Registration for the 2011-2012 year is now closed.
