A Step Into Africa - The Ngorongoro Capital Campaign

Phase III, Hear the ROAR! You can help the Zoo finish the vision of Africa!

Phase III of A Step Into Africa reveals a number of new features that form the heart of the Ngorongoro Crater exhibit. Each of the following components is included in the third and final phase of the expansion project aimed at bringing lions back to the Zoo.

  • A Safari Vehicle

The Zoo's A Step Into Africa project can only be fully realized upon the completion of Phase III

  • Cost: $4.1 million
  • Monies secured to date for Phase III: $2.1 million
  • Monies needed for completion of Phase III: $1.9 million. That represents 15% of the $12.3 million total cost of the A Step Into Africa expansion project which also included:
Phase I: Elephant Barn - $4.4 million (opened in Spring of 2006)
Phase II: Baboon Exhibit & Elephant Splash Pool - $3.8 million (opened in Spring of 2008)

  • Offer a cohesive visitor experience that simulates a visit to the Ngorongoro Crater in Africa
  • Offer an experience that is engaging, educational and entertaining for visitors of all ages
  • Help visitors explore the idea that humans and other animals can coexist in the same environment
  • Offer an experience that will increase both unique visitors and repeat guests
